The WAX is a melting pot of musical ideas and textures. They sit somewhere between the realm of rock bands and the ever evolving electronic music scene, creating something truly unique and remarkably fresh.

The quintet, known for their explosive live performances and expansive sonic palette, utilizes an arsenal of synths, guitars and a traditional hard hitting rhythm section to create a strong rock/electronic feel in their live shows.

The WAX have been steadily making a name for themselves in the few years since the band’s inception. In the last 12 months they have played the finest stages in Halifax and the Maritimes - opening for major acts such as Crash Karma - and recently wrapped up 2010 with a tour of Quebec and Ontario supporting Halifax heavyweights The Jimmy Swift Band.

Aside from grinding out shows the band has been invading the FM airwaves, with support from Live 105 (Halifax) and CHYZ 94.3 (Quebec City). They’re currently hard at work prepping for their follow-up to 2009's "Lost Societies" EP and are teaming up with sonic mastermind Colin Crowell (Ruby Jean & The Thoughtful Bees, BOTNEK, Scientists of Sound, The Jimmy Swift Band). The record, set to be released in the fall of 2011, will fuse smart melodic pop vocal concepts with hard hitting electro dance grooves.

The WAX also showcased at the 2011 East Coast Music Awards, held in Charlottetown, PEI.

The band itself is a patchwork of hard working musicians from across Canada. Founders PHYL LA FERRIERE and ADAM McLELLAN (Snug, Dr. Beardsley) have been welding this machine together since 2008 when the two started exchanging emails from halfway across the country. The WAX lineup is currently rounded out by JEFF MAYHEW (Janus) on drums, JAMES SPRAY on piano/vocals and JIM ARSENAULT (Slumbercat, Broadcaster) on bass guitar and synth.
